Grammar Notes: Article and Adjectives


  1.    Adjectives are words that tell more about a noun by describing the person, place, or thing. 

  Articles are types of adjectives. (This is a review from first semester.)

  2.    A, AN and THE are special kinds of adjectives called Articles.
·        A and AN are only used with single nouns.
ü A is used with nouns that begin with a consonant.
ü An is used with nouns that begin with a vowel.
·        THE is used before singular or plural nouns.

Examples:
·        The beautiful flowers bloomed.
·        Some people are going to Disney World in June. 
·        The red ball was very popular.
·        There are three songs that we will sing at mass.

Examples:
A dog is a fun pet to have.
An octopus lives in the ocean.
The boy is a fast runner.
The boys are fast runners.
