Our Easter Season

April RQ

April RQ quiz grades are updated in Portal Plus -- sorry for the delay.

Next Friday is the last day to take an April RQ quiz. If you want to improve your grade, you can still read another book.

Vocabulary Parade

Students chose their words and started making their signs and designing their costumes in class today.

The Vocabulary Parade, which is part of the Philippine Festival this Saturday, will began at 11am.

If your child participates on Saturday, he/she will earn a 100% in Vocabulary for participation. If you come, don't forget to try the lumpia -- it's the best!!! Hope to see you all there.

Pencil Sharpener

Our electric pencil sharpener bit the dust. I've asked students to take home any pencils that need to be sharpened or to bring in a small pencil sharpener to keep in their desk bag. Thank you.

Does ice cream make you smarter (comparative adjective)?

A university in Japan conducted research on whether or not ice cream for breakfast improves brain function.  We're not sure if it's true -- the glucose (sugar) may just give you a mental boost, positive thoughts, or added energy. Regardless, we decided to give it a try. Since we have two tests today and will be practicing for ITBS, which begins next week, we thought this would be a great day for our experiment.

Beside, how can you go wrong with ice cream for breakfast!!?!

Why should I study? How do I study?

Do you play soccer, volleyball, or baseball? Do you take gymnastics? Are you on any other type of team? Do you have practices that you have to attend with a coach?

AFTER practice, do you play at home or continue to practice so that you improve? I bet you do.

Well, school works the same way. Your teacher is your coach, and you have to PRACTICE what you've learned. Here's a recap of the Study Habits that I posted.

  STUDY HABITS
  •        How do you study or review?
  Here are some ideas:
·           Rewrite your notes
·           Draw a diagram or illustration to show your understanding
·           Discuss what you’ve learned with someone by summarizing it in your own words
·           Test by yourself  (write your own test, take it, and then grade it!)
  •       Have a positive attitude.
  •         Set aside a consistent time and place to study.
  •       Study a little bit every day. Don’t cram.
  •       Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  •       No distractions.
  •       Study in a well-lighted area.
  •       Get plenty of sleep at night.
  •          Use memory associations, songs, or other tricks to help you remember.
·         Remember how I taught you to spell bologna and gnaw?
·         Do you remember the Paschal Mysteries? Think about the song you wrote with Mr. Angotti.
·         Video or record yourself, then play it back.
·         Create a quiz for yourself in Quizlet
·         Kahoot! (you can create your own)

Homework

Have you finished your April RQ book?

Miss Tennessee

Today we had a visit from Miss TN, Grace Burgess. She talked to us about grit -- perseverance -- and always working toward our goals.

Adjectives that Compare

Adjectives can compare two people, places, or things
usually by adding -er.
To compare three or more things, add – est.
When adding – er or –est, you may have to change the spelling.

Examples:
fine                 finer                finest
(drop the -e)

easy                easier             easiest
(Change “y” to an “i”)

hot                  hotter             hottest
(Double the final consonant, when a vowel comes before the consonant. )

good              better                best
(irregular)

Happy Birthday, Isabella!

Allelujah!

CRF Rice Bowl collection

Thank you to those who have returned their rice bowls. If you haven't brought yours in yet, you can still bring it in after we return from Easter break.

Service Project #2

We completed our second service project at PDO this morning. Our students hid Easter eggs for the children to hunt. We had lots of fun hanging out with our PDO friends again.

If you forget to bring in your CRF rice bowl, please bring it in after Easter. Thank you.
