Night Letters

We're reading a story about a girl who finds "letters" at night written by things in creation, so we decided to find day letters. It was a great exercise in letter writing on this gorgeous day!!

I love my students!!!!

Just a reminder -- 3G will be going to the book fair if you would like to send money with your child.

The Snowflake Man

We read the article "The Secrets of Snowflakes" in Newsela, and today we watched a brief video on Mr. Bently ...The Snowflake man. We learned that he was an inventor. He was the first person to photograph a snowflake (on Jan. 15, 1885) with the camera he invented, and he took over 5,000 pictures of snowflakes -- and no two snowflakes were alike. He also did something very cool with a feather. What a problem-solver! Be sure to ask your child.

Study Tip #3: Memory Tricks

Use memory associations, songs, or other tricks to help you remember what you're studying.
·         Remember how I taught you to spell bologna and gnaw?
·         Do you remember the Paschal Mysteries? Think about the song you wrote with Mr. Angotti.
·         Video or record yourself, then play it back, like we did on the iPad.
·         Create a quiz for yourself in Quizlet
·         Kahoot! (you can create your own and play against your family)

Can you think of a new memory trick?

STREAM Unit: Snowflakes

Today we started a STREAM unit on snowflakes. We kicked off the unit with some Math, Religion,  & Art. We made name snowflakes (fractions, symmetry -- and practicing following directions), made a snowflake quilt (created an array), and read A Very Special Snowflake (and discussed camouflage).

We have lots more planned over the next couple of weeks -- It'll be snow much fun!
