Why come to STREAM Night this Thursday?

Your student’s STREAM project will be on display along with the entire school. Some are even interactive, so come ready to play!

Curious about robots and medical interventions like laparoscopy?  Visit with reps from the CBHS Co-STEMM table.

Need ideas for STEM related books and toys? Stop by the Knowledge Tree table.

Ever coded with cubes? You can with ambassadors from the West TN STEM Hub.

Want to solve a Rubik cube? Come try! There is even a take home engineering activity for the family.

Your child/grandchild can make a dog bone carrier for our robot dogs, help baby Moses make it down the Nile River, and create a stop motion movie. Oh, yeah, and of course, there will be glow-in-the-dark slime.

See you Thursday night in the school gym from 5:30pm – 7pm. Free admission!

Finishing touches

First graders put the finishing touches on their inventions and wrote their project descriptions. Then they used the Rubik cubes to make letters and patterns. Lucy also solved one complete side!!

Engineering: Stack the Cats

As Pre-K4 read Stack the Cat, we discussed what an engineer does, learned the meaning of the words teeter and rooter, and then added and subracted cats. SO of course, we had to practice stacking and counting, just not with cats!

Peer Learning

Most of what we do is project-based, working in pairs or small groups. Sometimes students research on their own, then come back together as a group and share. This strategy ensures that all students are actively and purposefully contributing. Other times, they work together on research and planning, assigning roles. One of my favorite strategies is having the students go to team members—or even another team— for help when they’re stuck. I could easily give them the answer, but then their learning hasn’t been as meaningful.  In fact, they may not have even learned anything. It’s challenging for them, but I promise, in the end, it will make them better live-long leaners.

Three important words in the SREAM vocabulary:
Perseverance
Grit
YET! (as in ....I just don’t know it YET!)
