Peer Learning

Most of what we do is project-based, working in pairs or small groups. Sometimes students research on their own, then come back together as a group and share. This strategy ensures that all students are actively and purposefully contributing. Other times, they work together on research and planning, assigning roles. One of my favorite strategies is having the students go to team members—or even another team— for help when they’re stuck. I could easily give them the answer, but then their learning hasn’t been as meaningful.  In fact, they may not have even learned anything. It’s challenging for them, but I promise, in the end, it will make them better live-long leaners.

Three important words in the SREAM vocabulary:
Perseverance
Grit
YET! (as in ....I just don’t know it YET!)
