Plural Possessives

Plural possessive nouns show that two or more people share or own something. 

How to make a plural noun possessive:

1.     Add an apostrophe (‘) AFTER the plural noun that ends in –s, -es, or –ies.  Example:  cats’ toys  (more than one cat)

2.     To make an irregular plural noun possessive, add an ’s.   Example: oxen’s owner   (more than one ox)

Examples of plural possessive nouns:

Plural noun:   The dogs like to hide their bones.

Plural possessive: The  dogs’ bones are hidden.

Plural noun:   The girls like to play with Shopkins.

Plural possessive: The girls’ Shopkins are in their desk bags.

Examples of IRREGULAR plural possessive nouns.  

Irregular plural noun:    The men all wore jackets.

Plural possessive:  The men’s jackets were hanging by the door.

Irregular plural noun:    The children were playing football. 

Plural possessive:  The children’s football was thrown over the fence.
