A possessive
pronoun takes the place of the noun that shows WHO or WHAT OWNS (possesses)
something.

Example: John and Mary are friends. He rode HIS bike
to HER house.
Explanation: The bike is HIS. It belongs to John.
The house belongs to HER. It belongs
to Mary.
He is also a pronoun, but it's not possessive. It's a singular
pronoun.
