St. Faustina Youth Society

Now that you're in 3rd grade, you can join the St. Faustina Youth Society.

SFYS meets the first Tuesday of each month from 2:50pm – 3:30pm. We prayer the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3pm, then have a brief meeting in the Innovation Lab.

The majority of our activities take place during school hours, with the exception of some special mass and service projects, all of which are optional.

Here are some of the things we do:

- pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
- participate in off-campus service projects
- host Cop Stop during lunch
- Take food to the fire station across the street
- Participate in an on-campus retreat
- Participate in special masses
- organize food drives for St. Vincent de Paul
- Host the pet blessing in October
- Coordinate teacher prayer gifts in December
- Make a prayer wall
- end of the day prayer leaders

We hope you'll consider joining us!!!

One cool thing about me...

I love inventing new things to cook. I hardly ever follow a recipe!

Think of one cool thing about you that you want to share with the class. I can't wait to hear all about YOU!!!

Get a good night's rest!

Welcome to 3G!!!

Thursday,  August 8th  is the first day of school, with dismissal at 11:30am.  Students will not need a lunch, but they’ll need a small snack and a water bottle (no juice or soda, please).

On the first day of school, you’re more than welcome to come help your child get settled. All the books and workbooks have been assigned and are waiting on his/her desk. However, after the first day of school, please make sure your child goes directly to the cafeteria at drop off. Do not come to the classroom. The teacher on morning duty will escort the class to the room at 7:50am. They will wait quietly outside of the classroom so that I can greet them each morning.

Class begins promptly at 8am. Please do not be late or your child will miss classwork for the morning meeting. :)

In order to make our first day run smoothly, I’d like your child to come in with the following tasks completed:

Sharpen all of your pencils
Please label spirals and folders with your child’s name and the following
Spirals/Composition books (any color):
   Reading/English/Spelling
   Math
   Science/Social Studies
Folders (any color):   (do not put notebook paper in the folders)
Take Home
Class Work

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email me.

The Power of Peppermint

Peppermint in many forms such as tea, candy, and oil can be used to help improve mental awareness. The menthol “stimulates the Hippocampus area of the brain which controls mental clarity and memory. The odor triggers you to wake up and pay attention.” This explains why many people believe that peppermint makes you smarter, when really it makes you more alert.
At the University of Cincinnati, a study found that peppermint made students taking a test more focused and alert, and ended up with a better grade on their test. Peppermint has this effect beca
use it increases the oxygen count in your blood, increasing the flow to your brain causing you to be more attentive.
Similarly, in an experiment at Wheeling Jesuit University, students were asked to chew different flavors of gum, one of them being peppermint, while doing work. Chewing gum already improves blood flow to your brain, but peppermint only enhances that effect. Through this experiment, the students chewing peppermint gum were found to be both more productive and also improve memory.
Peppermint also has the ability to improve athletic performance as well as helping to improve reaction times.
Overall, peppermint can improve your mental awareness but, no, it does not actually make you smarter.
