Mock Library Renovation

Mr. Trouy, a contractor and father of Luke Truoy ‘18, spent time this morning helping the 4th graders on their library renovation project. He brought in tools like a laser distance measure, scale ruler, and blue prints for students as they use their math and engineering skills to create plans for a mock library renovation.

Next students will interview other students and teachers to get their feedback on what they’d like to see in a new library.

When they've finished the planning stage, they will go to Home Depot and Ikea to "buy" materials and items. Each team has a budget of $1,000.

When they've finished, Mr. Trouy will return so that the students can present their plans to a panel of adult experts.

The book fair opens on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7:30am in the library!

4th grade library remodel

Students have started working on the budget and planning phases of their library remodel project. They are collaborating to create a 21st century learning environment for the entire school.

SAS 3rd graders are amazing!

Why are they amazing? Well, you’re going to have to wait for that answer!

Our 3rd grader authors/illustrators are writing a book that outlines their plans to be problem-solvers and to make the world a better place to live. They are collaborating and researching with the hopes of sending the manusript to the publisher in February!

Types of precipitation

Second graders are learning about the water cycle. We’ve danced and rapped to the Water Cycle song, conducted an experiment, and now we’re 3D printing types of precipitation for our model.

Art and Literacy!

Mixing art and literacy is as much fun as mixing paint! PreK 3 students listened to the Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle, and then made their own mixed-up chameleons using shaving cream and two colors of paint. They learned that red + blue = purple; red + yellow = orange; blue + yellow = green!

3D Winter Scene

First graders are working on their 3D paper winter scenes. We’re learning to use a ruler and measure in inches, draw and cut various shapes, and more importantly, they are practicing their listening skills and following 2 and 3 step directions. Next week we’ll have pictures of the finished product. It was a very focused class today, and I forgot to take pictures, so these silly ones outside their classroom will have to do!
