Hello, parents and guardians of my future 3rd grade scholars! I'm looking forward to an adventurous, fun, and productive year of learning, one that begins with the summer work in a comprehensive review of 2nd grade skills. Summer work is so important because it will help alleviate the summer slide and help reinforce what Mrs. Wall and Mrs. Post have been teaching. Then we can hit the ground running in August!
BEFORE your scholar begins this work, take some time to enjoy the summer break. Don't jump right in! Let him/her relax and recharge. Read 'n Quiz (RQ): Your child will choose one RQ book to read this summer and complete the corresponding RQ quiz. Please have your scholar read and take the quiz independently. I'm not assigning reading levels yet, but please do not read below a 2.5 unless Mrs. Wall or Mrs. Post has your scholar assigned on a lower level. Before you read a book, log into your RQ account and check to make sure the book you're reading is an RQ book.
SECOND grade IXL: (not third grade) Students will complete the entire IXL Summer Adventures for second grade, working to a Smartscore of at least 80.

If you'd like him or her to work beyond that, go for it! The more practice, the better. Feel free to have him/her work in any other 2nd grade IXL skills or content areas in which you feel he/she needs extra practice. If your Scholar has already completed these sections, please have them redo them for the extra practice. If it's not completed over the summer, it won't show up on my report.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. I will be checking email periodically over the summer. My email address is: annmarie.ghio@sascolts.org. For now, enjoy this time with your scholar and thank you for your support in helping them avoid the summer slide and for giving them the best start to 3rd grade that you can!
