Common nouns are people, places, things, or ideas that have lower case letters. They are not certain people, places, or things.
Examples: cat, dog, pencil, pizza, house, school
Proper nous are specific nouns and are capitalized.
Examples: Joe, Ticonderoga (brand of pencil), Dominos, White House, St. Ann School
When you write about certain (specific) holidays, days of the week, months of the year, states, countries, and oceans, they are all capitalized.

Today we went on a virtual field trip to visit the home of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, who founded the parochial school system in the United States and the Sisters of Charity (who founded St. Ann!). We learned about her family, her life, and her conversion to Catholicism.

3G Reading - Write 5 compound sentences independently on notebook paper. Use , but , and and , or. Use your three colored pencils. One color for your TWO subjects, another color for the TWO verbs, and the last color for the comma and conjunction -- just like we did in class.

Remember that a compound sentence has TWO SUBJECTS and TWO VERBS.
Not a compound sentence: I walked my dog to the park, store, and home.
Not a compound sentence: I am going to Target and Trader Joe's.
This is a compound sentence: I rode my bike to Target on Wednesday, but my daughter drove to Target.
