Today we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Mark! He was a disciple, traveling companion and interpreter for the Saints Peter and Barnabas. For this reason, his Gospel is believed to be the Gospel record of the preaching of Saint Peter. He assisted Saint Barnabas in Cyprus, and assisted Saint Paul when he was a prisoner in Rome.
Saint Mark preached in Alexandria, Egypt, and helped to form a church there. He became the bishop of Alexandria and was later martyred there for his faith in Jesus Christ.
