We LOVE Science!

Inspired by Mr. Science, we decided to try a little experiment of our own. We used water, Alka-Seltzer, and balloons to create an explosion.
We tested and documented three hypotheses, using  two different balloons (water balloons and regular latex balloons), different amounts of water (1/2 cup, 3/4 cup, and one cup), and different # of tablets (1, 5, and 10). While creating each hypothesis, we problem-solved different ways to get the Alka-Seltzer in the balloons and from the balloon to the water -- we have some very smart and creative thinkers!
We also discussed endo and exothermic reactions. We had an endothermic reaction -- we could feel the cold.
Unfortunately, even 10 tablets didn't cause an explosion. The balloon was much larger, but it didn't pop.
Maybe our young scientists can try the experiment at home --with adult supervision -- and get it to work. Be sure to document!
