The rule for plural nouns ending in “y” is to change the “y” to an “i” and add -es. If the letter before the “y” is a consonant. If the letter before the “y” is a vowel, you only add an “s”.

The SUBJECT is the part of the sentence that tells who or what the sentence is about.
· My brother Bill rode his purple bike.
o Who rode the bike? Bill
o Bill is the subject of the sentence.
· The large waves crashed to the shore during the storm.
o What crashed? The waves.
o Waves are the subject of the sentence.
The PREDICATE is the part of the sentence that tells what the subject of the sentence does.
· My brother Bill rode his purple bike.
o What did Bill do? He rode his bike.
o Rode is the verb (predicate)
Complete Subject and Complete Predicate
All the words in the subject are called the complete subject.
· My brother Bill rode his purple bike.
· The complete subject: My brother Bill
All the words in the predicate are called the complete predicate.
· My brother Bill rode his purple bike.
· The complete predicate: rode his purple bike
