Books for everyone!

Not only did our PDO reading buddies get books, but so did all of 3G!

I love the story The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did — and Libbyclaire and Ellie, too.

Our PDO reading buddies

After Computer, we walked over to PDO to deliver presents to our friends. We gave them books — the girls got Peppa Pig Learns to Share and the boys got What if You Had Animal Teeth.

Splash Math

We're using Splash Math in class to help us strengthen our math skills! You can use this at home, even if you don't have the app.

Phonics Facts: Articles (adjectives) A, An, and The

When the word begins with a vowel sound (a,e,i,o,u) then you should use ‘an.’ 

Example: an apple, an umbrella

When the word begins with a consonant you should use ‘a’. 

EXCEPTIONS
However with this rule there are exceptions. If you are using a word with a silent ‘h’ (honest), then you have to use ‘an’.  

Example: an honest student

Another exception:  the vowel U. When ‘u’ makes the same sound as the ‘y’ in “you”, or ‘o’ makes the same sound as ‘w’ in “won” then you should use ‘a’. 

Example: a one-legged dog     a unicorn

Whale of a rule!

If you put your hand in front of your mouth when saying a word with ‘wh’, you often feel a puff of air.  When there is only a ‘w’, it’s more of a lip rounding with not as much air.

Club Invention is back!

Beginning each Thursday from Feb. 6th - March 26th at 3pm, we'll be asking SAS inventors in grades first through fifth to help the town of Unlucky! 

At Club Invention, you’ll join engineer, architect and builder Archie Tek to help rebuild a town devastated by hurricanes and earthquakes. Take on the challenge to build stronger bridges and better buildings using inspiration from nature, and the inductees of the National Inventors Hall of Fame!

The Boston Tea Party

On this day (Dec. 16) in 1773, the Boston Tea Party happened. We experimented with a tea bag and tea leaves to see if they would sink of float. We’re also leaving them overnight to see what happens to the water.
