National Geogrpahic Explorer Classroom

We had so much fun learning from ecologist and canopy researcher, Kevin McLeod during a live Nat Geo Explorer Classroom session. Mr. McLeod is a field research who works in the Amazon rain forest. We were also lucky enough to be acknowledged live and have one of our questions answered.

Phonics Facts: -ed sound

Why do some words that have -ed make the "t" sound?

/ed/ sound is made as a separate syllable sound when it comes after words ending in d or t ( rested, dreaded)

- /d/ sound is made when it comes after voices consonants (spilled, buzzed)

- /t/ sound is made when it comes after unvoiced consonants (rushed, stumped)
