I know there is a lot of new information in 3rd grade, especially in the spring semester. Which is why studying is so very important.

Your brain is made of billions of neurons (tiny wires or connections). When you learn something new, your brain grows NEW neurons (and that's a good thing; like strengthening your muscles). However, neurons can only grow IF they are connected to other existing neurons (old information).

In other words, the only way to learn something new is to attach the new information to something you already understand. And in order to remember and understand something, you have to practice (and pay attention in class), which is why homework and studying are so important. Just like in sports: You improve because you practice, practice, practice. The same applies to your school work.

So keep growing neurons!

Main idea: Connecting old information to new information helps us learn.
Supporting detail: Learning grows neurons.
Supporting detail: New neurons must attached to existing ones.
Supporting detail: Practice/studying helps us understand/remember what we learn.
